The
Band
Steve was already making regular appearances using backing tracks
and also performing with the 'Swing Junkies' - but a chance meeting
with Surrey based jazz pianist Eugene Portman set Steve Conway on
a whole new career move. Steve is now performing regularly as a
duo with Eugene on piano but gradually there has been an increased
demand for larger line ups. So now Steve has decided to use the
services of Eugene's already successful jazz trio. 'The Eugene Portman
Trio' features Eugene Portman on piano, Dave Trigwell (from Sussex)
on drums and Mike Porter-Ward on bass (from Kent).
If Steve is using backing tracks then he can perform a maximum
of 2 X 45 minute sets. He can, however, provide a full evenings
entertainment if he is hired as a duo, trio or if he is hired with
his band. An evenings entertainment can consist of piano solos,
instrumental numbers, vocal sets and recorded music during breaks.
Here's a little info about the band members:
Eugene Portman on piano
Eugene was classically trained and worked mostly in that field
before crossing over to jazz. His career has covered many genres
of music which has helped him forge a unique style.
Eugene playing has been influenced by the likes of George Shearing,
Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Dudley Moore, so his playing
tends not to be too high-brow and makes the ideal accompaniment
to Steve's voice.
